A Grainy Faux Find and a Challenge

Happy New Year, everyone! I've been working on projects around my house, still living in the same crazy boxed-up craft studio while a very long process of remodeling and moving rooms around our house.  Even though my situation is a little less than desired, I'm still happy to have what I have access to, and that ever so often I'm fortunate to be the hostess of the most fun challenge on Splitcoaststampers. Today I'll be sharing a photo tutorial of a new find on Youtube. I'll tell you the source in a bit, but here is my photo summary for papercrafters! Look at the bottom of the post for links to products involved in the card above. I followed the video instructions and made lines for my planks with pencil and rulers. I made it easy on myself and did 1-inch width planks and centered them on a 4-1/4 x 5-1/2 inch white cardstock. Again from the video, I taped off two planks. It helped keep my paper in one place. As with the video, I layered my paint but realized I needed...

Side By Side

Happy weekend everyone! It’s been sooooo long ago that I’ve posted, but I still have one stamping gig I’m still doing and I wanted to pop in and tell you about it.  Friday, every eight weeks I host a challenge on Splitcoaststampers for their mixed media thread called Mix-Ability. If you’ve been getting notifications from me for a while you probably already know about it, but those new here should check out this stampers and makers community. It’s a lot of fun with challenges, tutorials and various festivals.  So my challenge? It’s called MIX444: Side by Side. My inspiration was the cover of a well known creative magazine and I fell into a creative trance with the cards pairing of old style pieces with new style techniques and supplies. I think it even called it out as Juxtaposed Old and New.  So with a little bit of leeway crafters and makers can make something with old and new side by side! The card above has a page copied from an old Housekeeping Hints booklet with an o...

Imagine A Mixed-Media Challenge

Happy Friday, everyone! Today I'm popping in to share a project. A colorful and whimsical card for the Splitcoaststampers Mix-Ability challenge this week hosted by little ole me!  Our challenge is to use a type of fold or window, an opening of sorts, that we haven't tried before. Keeping with the guidelines of mixed-media, this challenge is pretty wide-open to try out!  The never tried portion of this card today was the interactive shutter inside the card. I'm sure I've made a gate-fold before, but it's still a rare fold for me. Check out the tutorial on Splitcoaststampers. Bright acrylic paints and whimsical Laurel Burch stamps are the pieces that make my shutter gatefold card sparkle! See the project supplies and instructions below. One last thing before you scroll down on the 'How To', I'd like to focus on a small business during this time of COVID-19 change. If you decide to purchase the featured products, consider getting them from the Frantic Stam...

Paste Not Waste Your Way to Crafting Time

In a time before kids, I would look for something out of my regular routine to do. My mother-in-law mentioned that a few teacher friends were going to take a bookbinding class she thought I would be interested in also taking so I jumped at the chance and was delighted by it. Not only did I learn a few small bookbinding techniques, but I was also fascinated by the paste paper process. Trying to be creative with what we have for the Splitcoaststampers Mix-Ability challenge, I decided to combine the technique of paste paper and unused stamped rejects. No matter how hard I try these days I'm always making a mistake stamping, I will inevitably smudge or blur the stamped image... yes, even with a stamp positioner.  Mix-Ability Challenge MIX332: Paste Not Waste Here's my process as best I could photograph it out, but first tips on the paste making process. Links are at the end of this post for credits, recipes, and other tutorials. I searched the internet, and ...
