Imagine A Mixed-Media Challenge

Happy Friday, everyone! Today I'm popping in to share a project. A colorful and whimsical card for the Splitcoaststampers Mix-Ability challenge this week hosted by little ole me!

Our challenge is to use a type of fold or window, an opening of sorts, that we haven't tried before. Keeping with the guidelines of mixed-media, this challenge is pretty wide-open to try out!

The never tried portion of this card today was the interactive shutter inside the card. I'm sure I've made a gate-fold before, but it's still a rare fold for me. Check out the tutorial on Splitcoaststampers.

Bright acrylic paints and whimsical Laurel Burch stamps are the pieces that make my shutter gatefold card sparkle! See the project supplies and instructions below.

One last thing before you scroll down on the 'How To', I'd like to focus on a small business during this time of COVID-19 change. If you decide to purchase the featured products, consider getting them from the Frantic Stamper company. They stock many Stampendous products and so much more!

Supplies: I provide some product links that are through my Amazon Affiliate, and that means when clicked and purchased in the same session, a few pennies are sent my way at no cost to you.

On another sheet of white paper pull second print to use for another project. Without cleaning, add magenta and little amount of white paint and spread with prayer. Lay down the stencil and pull the print on the first one done with green and yellow.
  2. After monoprint is dry stamp Script onto paper with Onyx Black ink.
  3. Use Shutter Gatefold Tutorial.
  4. Stamp the sentiment from Laurel Burch Imagine Butterflies set onto Mixed Media White Paper and cut with a circle die. Use color cardstock and other circle dies for the mat.
  5. Stamp the smallest butterfly from Laurel Burch Imagine Butterflies set onto an unused section of the monoprint and die cut out. Stamp the larger butterfly on color cardstock and die cut out, stamping the antennae and hand trimming. Glue onto the larger butterfly.

Poinsettia Are My Christmas Decor!

We are so close to Christmas break in our house. All that’s left are classroom parties, a chili potluck and caroling at the church and a Futsal (form of indoor soccer) game and then it’s vacation!

Even though we are busy, I have decorated for Christmas, and I do take the time to sit and enjoy them. Though my tree is teddy bear theme, I have sprinkled fabulous red poinsettias around for decor. I just love them!

When I saw this Poinsettia Wishes stamp set from Stampendous I was immediately in love. I loved the rustic or country look, so I made a red plaid monoprint background for it. I also wanted some shiny, so I used the Glitzy Adhesive technique by Fran at Stampendous.

Take a look at this technique video with Fran. It is a super way to make a one of a kind sparkly project!

With all the ideas from this video fresh on your mind, go grab all those Stampendous glitters you have and get to sticking them on a holiday project!

More of the design team are sharing their Christmas projects. Stop by and give them some comment love plus you can stop by the Stampendous blog for all sorts of crafty inspiration for the holidays.

Creative JumpStart in a Mix-Ability Birthday

It's all about getting the creativity going and then jumping into a challenge. I feel like I'm a bi-athlete of mixed media right now.

I've had a blast watching the artists in the n*Studio's Creative JumpStart 2015 Workshop. I didn't know what to expect and it is so refreshing helping me get looser in my creative routine. This project is my share for Show and Tell #2. My inspiration was the Painting Panel by Marsha Valk. I just loved her layers! I adapted the idea to use the new Rectangles Creative Palette from Stampendous*.

I'm all caught up on the videos now and so I immediately grabbed some new NEW supplies! I'll just say they are fun and Stampendous has them shipping out to your favorite craft stores. Look for the * next to items that are going to be available to consumers soon. {wink}

The challenge is Mix-Ability's MIX103: Repeat-peat-peat. Pick a shape and repeat it several times in different sizes, styles, you name it.

Here's the what of my project...

And here's the how...

Supplies:

From Stampendous:
*H311 Penned Birthday (Look/ask in stores near you or here after next weekend)
*MPW811 Mixed Media White Paper (peek here)
*CP475 Rectangles Creative Palette (peek here)

Airbrush Medium by Liquitex®
Paintbrushes (#8 Flat and #2 Rigger/liner)
Sewing Pattern Tracer Wheel
Zip-Dry™ Paper Glue by Beacon Adhesives®

  1. Create a card base by folding a 5 1/2 x 8 1/2 inch piece of white cardstock to a finished size of 5 1/2 x 4 1/4 inches.
  2. Cover workspace with paper or craft mat.
  3. Prep area with large rectangle Creative Palette plate, exposing one side of the plate by removing the acetate cover*. Have a cup of clean water, paper towel, paint palette, paints and other supplies in reach of the palette.
  4. Using the flat brush thin each paint color with airbrush medium on palette paper or craft mat and cleaning brush with water in between each color mix.
  5. Start with one color and paint large squares onto Stampendous Creative Palette and quickly make a print with mixed media white paper.
  6. Repeat each color, varying square sizes, in the same way as the first. Use the same piece of paper for each impression.
  7. Do not clean the palette between colors so you can use the last impression as a guide for the new color.
  8. Put the small square stamp from Rectangles Creative Palette onto acrylic stamp handle.
  9. Dampen a sponge and pat into paint color (raw sienna, blue violet or whatever you choose but white should be last) and then evenly pat it onto the small square stamp. Stamp onto monoprint. Repeat with desired color choices.
  10. Paint a few squares in various sizes with flat brush in two colors (Purple Red and white shown)
  11. Trim monoprint to fit on card base (5 1/4 x 4 inches)
  12. Thin Ivory Black with a little airbrush medium and load the rigger/liner brush. begin to add open squares around the outside of the monoprint. Attach a few with lines. Vary sizes, outline some stamped squares or whatever your creative leads you to do.
  13. Run the pattern tracer tool in black paint that has been spread out with a brush. Run the tracer wheel next to the painted squares.
  14. In the same manner as the small square stamp, load a sponge and pat it onto the sentiment stamp and stamp onto monoprint.
  15. Adhere dry monoprint to card base with Zip-Dry™ glue.

Thank you so much for stopping by! I hope you'll check out the Mix-Ability Challenge on Splitcoaststampers and the Creative JumpStart 2015 Workshop.

Dream It Up with Stampendous for my Inspirations

It's the fourth day of our Stampendous Stamps and Dreamweaver Stencils collaboration and I've just been thrilled to see so much inspiring ways to combine our talents and products. I hope you have also had a great time walking through the blogs each day and getting familiar with some new to you products as well as new ways to use them.

It's also the fourth week of my guest designing spot with the Dreamweaver Stencils Team and I'm so glad to have been a part of this fun group of designers. Thank you ever so much for YOU inspiring me through your designs.

Now are you ready for my collaboration card?

I've combined flowers from Cling Blossom Beauty, coordinating Blossom Beauty Die Cuts in  and the butterfly from Butterfly Tune Rubber Stamp with some splash of color using Prismacolor Pencils.

The textured background is something that I played around with and ended up loving and waiting for the right design to come along and include it. To my delight this combination just went so well together. Let me tell you how it was created.

I started out with a monoprint page using the Creative Palette and acrylic paints. The embossed design is done with the LJ929 Pop Rectangles Stencil and Translucent Embossing Paste. Once that was dry a brown acrylic paint was brushed around the page and rubbed off in a circular motion to push the paint into the edge of the embossing. It turned out so well I'm going to be doing that more often.

A classic sentiment is stamped from the Loving Messages Stamp Set and tucked in under a flower.

Here's close-up of the colored images and the embossed background paper.

This week there is another reason to come along with us in the blog list every day. It's going to be worth your while if you do! There are prizes for those who stop and comment on each blog every day this week. If you are just now getting in on the excitement, here are the blog post from Stampendous for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

Today you can just start hopping at the beginning of this blog list or continue on to Louise Healy if you have already been hopping with us! Enjoy!

As part of the Dream It Up! Challenge this month my inspiration comes from the beautiful trellises that are starting to see color fade in on them (and as I watch our snap pea starters try to use the blinds as their trellis), here is a April Inspirations link of a Wedding Trellis on HGTV's website.
