Christmas Greetings In Time for a DIY Holiday Card

It's been a week of Christmas Greeting with Stampendous and I get to share this simple and inspirational card.

I love this handwritten message with the iconic star graphic. It could be in a very traditional way, but I decided to change it up and use some of the modern colors we've been seeing so often at Christmastime.

Read to the end of the post for supplies and instructions. I think it would very easy to put a few dozens together in no time in an array of colors!

Instructions:

1. Fold 5-1/2 by 8-1/2 inch color cardstock half for a 4-1/4 by 5-1/2 inch card base. 
2. Watercolor a background with a brush onto Mixed Media White Paper and let dry, Spatter darker color and let dry. 
3. Stamp Savior Born onto watercolored cardstock. Stamp star on another piece of Mixed Media White cardstock, color, let dry, and trim out to adhere onto watercolored paper. 
4. Trim watercolor cardstock with Fitted Frames die and colored cardstock with larger frame die. 
5. Glue Fitted Frame pieces together with liquid glue and then adhere to card base with foam adhesive.

Poinsettia Are My Christmas Decor!

 

We are so close to Christmas break in our house. All that’s left are classroom parties, a chili potluck and caroling at the church and a Futsal (form of indoor soccer) game and then it’s vacation!

Even though we are busy, I have decorated for Christmas, and I do take the time to sit and enjoy them. Though my tree is teddy bear theme, I have sprinkled fabulous red poinsettias around for decor. I just love them!

When I saw this Poinsettia Wishes stamp set from Stampendous I was immediately in love. I loved the rustic or country look, so I made a red plaid monoprint background for it. I also wanted some shiny, so I used the Glitzy Adhesive technique by Fran at Stampendous.

Instructions:

1. Make a monoprint with the largest plate from the Creative Palette Rectangles kit, red paint, brayer and Texture cards. Trim to card front size of 4-1/4 x 5-1/3 inches when dry.
2. Stamp Poinsettia Wishes spray with black ink onto 5-1/2 x 1-5/8 inch Mixed Media White Paper and color.
3. Highlight pine branches with VersaMark Watermark Pen and sprinkle with Vintage Olive Tinsel Embossing Powder, tap off excess into container and heat set image. Repeat with red berries and Red Tinsel Embossing Powder and then poinsettia centers with Gold Tinsel Embossing powder.
4. Remove liner from a 2-3/8 x 5-1/2 inch piece of Sticky Panel and place on monoprint paper.
5. Remove the second liner and place poinsettia image across the middle of the sticky panel.
6. Sprinkle small sections of the exposed sticky panel with Twinkle Tinsel and secure by placing the liner over and rubbing down.
7. Remove liner and continue with Red Tinsel then Vintage Olive in areas across the sticky panel. 
8. Heat set embossing powders with the heat tool.
9. Adhere to a folded 4-1/4 x 5-1/2 inch card base.
10. Stamp phrase from Poinsettia Wishes with black ink onto the inside of card base.

House-Mouse Are Stirring Up the Holidays!

Instructions:

1. Fold 5-1/2 x 11 cardstock in half for card base.
2. Trim pattern paper 4 x 5-1/4 inch and glue to card base. Glue strip of base cardstock across the card.
3. Stamp Gift Giving in black ink onto Mixed Media White Paper and color.
4. Mask mice (and branch if desired) and across the base. Gently sponge distress inks with a twisting motion.
5. Remove mask and trim with "P" size Fitted Frame die and a larger frame with colored cardstock. Glue together.
6. Tie cord around the image and adhere with foam adhesive to card base.
7. Stamp sentiment from Wrapped Poinsettia with black ink underneath the colored image.

Winter Friend in Winterland

Hi, folks! It's Monday and around here the air is getting colder and I'm personally hoping for snow! While I wait I have a great little penguin to share with you today from the Stampendous set Winter Friends.

Instructions:

1. Glue down Madras Blue and Ocean Side paper onto white card base. Set aside.
2. Tape the snowflake template onto Mixed Media White paper and sponge Robin's Egg ink through the entire template. Repeat with Royal Blue after repositioning template. Add Scarlet dots around to fill out pattern.
3. Trim to size and round corners on one side.
4. Sprinkle Spoonful of Snow along edges and rounded corners, then heat from the back.
5. Cut a piece of Scarlet cardstock larger than pattern paper and round corners to match pattern paper.
6. Stamp penguin, present and extra arms with black ink onto Mixed Media White Paper and color.
7. Cut out colored images with matching dies, add the present with foam adhesive and the extra arms glued to the main image on each side.
8. Glue penguin onto embossed layers.
9. Tie a bow around top and glue down to card base.

Birdie Brown Christmas

 I have been a fan for a long time of the illustrations and stamps designed by Torico of Birdie Brown Stamps. I have a stash of digital files from a few years ago that are half colored, some of which are now stamp sets (yay for Jingle All the Way), but when I saw the latest Christmas theme stamps with coordinating dies it was a must have.

I'm so excited to finally be able to create with them.

This sweet helper was stamped and colored then die cut out. In true Torico style I added white highlights with my AC White marker pen. I repeated the stamping and coloring process with the gift at his feet.

The background is such a popular style these days that I'm finding my own method with the tools I have and this is how I created it for this card. I taped down a white cardstock with low-tack tape (blue painters tape that I pressed into a paper towel for even less tackiness to the adhesive) and then used BV20 and BV29 in my Copic airbrush system and started from the center - which is almost 99.9% the wrong way to start out - with the lighter marker and worked my way to the outside in a circular motion. I did a few layers to get the outer circles darker. The faded spots are done by slowly pressing the nozzle of a spray bottle filled with isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol so large drops come out. I've also seen people spray/pour into a cupped hand and let it drip from there.

The sentiment was stamped using my MISTI tool so I could plan and align the sentiment onto the airbrushed cardstock, but also double stamp it with watermark ink so it would have a good solid embossing with Detail White powder.

Today I really wanted to show a fun example of how to use both sides of the coin, the glue dot that is, when you want something to really stick, but be flexible as needs be fit.

This is a card and it may lay flat in an envelope to be mailed, but set it up and fluff out the boughs to have a dimensional tree that won't fall apart!

That's if from me for today unless you want to know just how I assembled this card, then keep on reading.

Instructions:

1. Fold a 5 1/2 x 11 inch cardstock in half for a finished 5 1/2 inch square card base. Set aside.
2. Spread small amount of acrylic paint onto Creative Palette with brayer. Imprint paint onto clean white cardstock. Set aside to dry.
3. Stamp Christmas tree four times and color each section on a different stamped image. Color above each section so there is no white paper.
4. Cut tree into sections using the Create Christmas Die Cut Set, first as a whole tree than across the section colored.
5. Glue tree using Mini Dots for each layer starting with the full tree on the bottom and each layer moving up the tree to the top layer. Exclude the edges of the boughs across the bottom edge and curl them upward way from bottom layer.

Tip: If you have Glue Lines you can add them straight down the center of each tree layer and not worry about the edges at all! Just remember to color in more of the tree.

6. Stamp and color four ornament strings and cut out using the matching die cut.
7. Use a Glue Dot on the front at one end of the ornament string and on the back at the other end. Adhere the front to the underside of a branch and angle down to the opposite side of the bough.
8. Stamp and color the star topper and hand trim. Glue with Craft Dot to the top of the tree.
9. Cut a brown monoprint piece with rectangle die cut.
10. Cut two pieces of white cardstock with snow trim die from Create Winter Die Cut Set, plus one snow mound.
11. Trim and glue monoprint to base of card. 
12. Glue one snow trim at bottom of card and add brown tree trunk then Christmas tree.
13. Adhere remaining snow trim and mound to base of tree trunk.
14. Stamp sentiment onto card base.

My card today uses the Ribbon Bird and Unto Us stamps as the main focus, but there is so much more on this card that I'll list below.

Last week I shared a card that used "Believe" on it and was meant to share the irony we sometimes fall into in preparing for this holiday. We can get ourselves caught in the worldly use of presents, parties and forget the humble offering that changed the world.

Today's card is my comfort for the true meaning of why my family celebrates Christmas. I hope you enjoy the art of this card.

Instructions:

1. Stamp Ribbon Bird with black ink on white cardstock and color.
2. Cut out bird and set aside.
3. Measure a small amount of acrylic paints onto palette and sponge to lightly mix.
4. Make a print on white paper and cut to card size once dry.
5. Stamp dots onto monoprint with Turquoise Sparkle and a cotton swab.
6. Sponge white paint onto Mish Mesh stamp and stamp around edges of print, then clean before paint dries on stamp.
7. Stack print onto black cardstock and glue to Balsa card base.
8. Stamp Unto Us onto print panel. (I didn't do this at this stage and my sentiment was stamped onto slippery Shaved Ice losing part of a word). 
9. Scribble Zip-Dry glue around the lower edges of the print panel and sprinkle micro glitter, tap off excess.
10. Add more glue and adhere Mica Fragments and Shaved Ice shaking off excess.
11. Adhere Ribbon Bird onto card with foam squares.

Instructions:

1. Cut monoprint paper down to size needed for card, around an A2 sized card.
2. Use template from Dear Santa Stamp Set and apply gesso only to the inside of the template (shape of Santa).
3. Stamp Dear Santa using a stamp positioning tool if desired, onto the dried gesso area.
4. Use colored pencils and some odorless mineral spirits to blend a light layer of color on all areas of the image.
5. Paint Big Dip O'ruby Sorbet paint onto Santa suit. Add Linen to white fur of suit. Let Dry.
6. Stamp words around the edges of the kraft card base and set aside.
7. Once the Sorbet is dry, cover Santa with mask from Dear Santa Stamp Set and spray Plush Colorations around image. Some paints will resist the spray, so carefully use a paper towel to soak up the puddles of color.
8. Color dark oil pastel around image and rub in with finger or paper stump.
9. Sprinkle Chunky White Enamel around edges and heat from the backside of the cardstock.
10. Paint or color green slashes on the right and left sides of Santa.
11. Cut a corner from red cardstock and adhere behind painted image then glue onto card base.
12. Rub a bit of red acrylic paint onto a strip of medical paper tape. Stamp word collage from Dear Santa Set and when dry adhere to the bottom of Santa iamge. Angle it slightly if you like.
13. Cut a thin strip of red Silk paper and glue onto paper tape.
14. Stamp presents image from Holiday Words in black ink. Color present with green acylric paint, smudge a little oil pastel at the baswe and spray with Plush before trimming closely around image.
15. Glue three sets of presents onto card base.

I'm sure there is a step I missed somewhere but I have covered the most important steps. Enjoy creating with this stamp

Our dogs are getting older and many times I just love to stare at the gorgeous coloring of their fur! LOL It's true and I'm one crazy gal, but I just LOVE gray hair, so now that they are accumulating these gorgeous strands I'm staring at them even more! 

Well, that said, I ended up coloring this Santa Dog NOT the color of either of my red dapple Dachshunds.Creative license doesn't have to make sense!

Instructions:

1. Stamp image with Onyx Black ink onto white cardstock and color.
2. Trim image measure and cut a piece of Black Magic Freeze 1/2-inch bigger than image.
3. Use Sand-It gadget to distress texture side of paper and wipe dust off with the Dust Buddy.
4. Cut photo corners from 1-inch square cardstock.
5. Glue image onto Black Magic cardstock and the photo corners onto the image.
6. Sand and dust front side of a 4 1/4 x 11 inch cardstock folded in half to a finished size of 4 1/4 x 5 1/2 inches.
7. Glue image onto card front and knot ribbon around base of image and around the front flap of the card.

Verve Stamps Release Day!

It's release day at Verve and we're celebrating with Day 4 of our November 2014 Spotlight Hops!  Have you enjoyed the spotlights we've been sharing this week? It is such a thrill to be sharing with you today for so many reasons, but it's not about me today. It's all about the JUST released Collection of Verve's Holiday Spotlight Hop. YAY!

For my card, I stamped the stable and sentiment on separate pattern paper with Versamark ink and embossed with Detail Black Embossing Powder. The stable was cut out with it's coordinating Starry Stable Die Set and then the stars cut from coordinating paper from the pack.

The bottom half of the card panel was embossed with Chunky White Embossing Enamel and heat set from the back of the panel (no "glue" needed) and then sewn around the edges with black button thread. A ribbon wrapped around the panel and tied in a bow before gluing it down on the card base. It's all glued and popped up from there. Now here's something that you are really going to love...

Spellbinders and Stampendous Holiday Blog Hop

So here's my card for today and it's using a great House-Mouse Designs stamp called Finishing Touches which I sneaked in for Getting Ready for Christmas Theme for Stampendous Theme Week. The sentiment is a very fun Retro Christmas stamp trimmed to pop.

My little mice are colored with Copic Markers and framed with Spellbinders nestabilities that are embossed with clear powder and then dusted with Micro Glitter and reheated to set.

The fun background paper is embossed with Spellbinders and sanded to reveal a complimentary blue core to the colored image. It's been wrapped with May Arts ribbon and Fran•táge with Chunky White embossing powder. To add to this sparkly design I added varying glue dots that were covered with Micro Glitter.

Quick Cards with Stampendous Jumbo Stamps

Good morning! It's a week of quick cards on the Stampendous blog and for all we know a quick card could take under 15 minutes in an ideal world, but when your mind works like mine it completely acceptable if it takes under 60 minutes. My card today was a quick card for me.

I like that the Cling Jumbo stamps and coordinating dies can create a very lovely card in just a few inks of a stamp. I think that this card could be under 15 minutes if I passed on the sewing and some of the sponging around the edges. There is one round of sponging that had to be done though, and it was the water stamping technique that I tried on the sentiment panel, it was just too much fun to try out.

When I made this card for a product review I mentioned for this post, I also had the quick holiday card theme in mind to double up on this card, but when I was drawn in to playing with the review products there is a wee bit more embellishments than a typical quick card would be adorned. Pardon my creative unleashing this time. :)

So this is the end of my post for the week. Some day soon I'll hopefully be posting more projects. I've got some other than card projects I'm working on and want to share.
