Facts are Facts

When I'm not posting my traditional cards it's because I'm knee deep in some other craft. Today I'm sharing a simple useful project I ended up making because there were none on the shelf of my local store. It would have cost me more in gas to drive to another store to buy a set of flash cards than just going home and making them myself. I mean what don't I have that would work for making a simple stack of cards?

It's a fun little app to have.

I started with a free template I found at Teachers Pay Teachers by Sara Warren. I started to print and something happened to the lines... I'm not sure but probably user error, so I recreated these flash cards in CorelDraw and added the answers for the reverse side. My mother-in-law reminded me to add a rounded corner so they could be easily shuffled correctly, so I grabbed my Corner Chompers and made an easy (but long) job of rounded the corners.

We have an older version of flashcards that were gifted to us from a retired teacher. They are priceless and I'll be keeping them, but when I went to organize them I found gaps in the system. One of the cards was a how-to and it also had cards that were worksheets. I'm not sure what those were for but I recreated them with my new larger set of flash cards. :) I wanted a reference to the cards on the worksheets so I hand stamped red numbers on the bottom of each one. Although it adds a nice vintage look to them, I had already printed, cut and corner rounded this set and still wanted those numbers.  I'll not be doing that again.

Caramel Apple Fun!

A couple of weeks ago I was in my daughter's class for art mom duties and I helped make these adorable caramel apples.

I started with some photos from the first day of class and then created the right sized apple and caramel shapes. So much fun and they had a blast!

They glued caramel to the apple and then added some brown glitter glue to the top, but wait...they first added a picture of themselves to the front.

Now isn't that sweet? awhhhhh.

So I decided to try and be an Art Mom for my daughter's Kindergarten class this year. EDIT: I AM the Art Mom for the year.

Last Tuesday I brought in to my daughter's classroom a crock pot and a Peel Away (peels, cores and slices apples and potatoes, possibly more than that). The teacher asked the class to each bring in an apple. While the children were in seatwork, they took turns using the Peel Away on their apple and then placed it in the crock pot. I added a few seasonings and when it was time for pick up the room smelled like chunky applesauce. Well, it was suppose to be applesauce but it resembled more of a pie filling. LOL Each student took home a cup to eat at lunch. Thanks to my friend and hairdresser, Susan, for that idea.

The art project was an apple book to give the students a chance to

The supplies for the apple book are:
-Two red circles
-Two white circles 1/2 inch smaller in diameter than the red
-One green rectangle
-One brown strip

Put together with a glue stick. The leaf is an outline of their thumb cut out and put between the back cover circle and the second white circle glued all together.

Then glue on the front cover:

-Torn colored tissue paper

We asked them to draw on the first page their favorite part of the Apple Pie Tree book and then on the second page they drew or wrote what is their favorite apple food

Lots of fun and they did a phenomenal job. I think all 10 students were done with the project within 30 minutes.
