Pretty cool when I think about it. I made a bunch of backgrounds way back when I designed for Technique Junkies using Shimmering Bliss sprays and some even more yummy products, a background stamp. The flowers were made up for my design team days with Stampendous which were extras that I couldn't use on a project. The only thing I needed to do was add a sentiment and then make it work for the challenge. Easy peasy.</div><div><br /></div><div>I chose the Stitch Effort direction and it was fun adding details to the flowers and then making a large stitch border. For an explanation of the cards in this post, go to the end of the post. </div><div><br /></div><div>In over a year I've scaled back my crafting to essentials and focused on the health of my neck, back and nutritionally everything. Years ago I tore the cartilage in my hip, had surgery and did barely nothing to get myself back to better than before the injury. About the same time I had severe neck pain that caused reference pain and numbing down to the hand on my dominate side, the side that I use to write, draw, blowdry my hair, etc. I used all my energy and effort to take care of my family and do stamped greeting cards for the design teams I was on. It was a crazy cycle that I didn't know how to end. I just couldn't imagine leaving the hobby that I love to make my body healthier because stamping made my mental health happy, or so I thought. It began to drag me down in every aspect. I tried physical therapy and exercise to get my physical aspect better but repeatedly hurt myself and was setback to the beginning of my efforts. </div><div><br /></div><div>It’s now 2023 and I’ve continued towards better health. Shedding weight through a program called Code Red Lifestyle with improved diet and getting pass a lot of hurdles with my body joints, I’m able to do more and more crafting. </div><div><br /></div><div>Hopefully you can enjoy some of my cards from the past years that I wasn’t able to post or did post only on my member gallery on <a href="http://Www.Splitcoaststampers.com" target="_blank">Splitcoaststampers</a>. </div><div><br /></div><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgz8rw0h9buEgaGM919UKNl0ShWsLNDaOII8orEMd7vNdEmbRbKmewK57Jxs9HrIl_mqp6OUdyp79XigNJnF7Zpl0lXEgXb2reYiVXmmh9L1iwQQpTAz_O4HgwCcHc8PMM_4nUmr2Mv00Q/s800/MIX404_JS2.jpg" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="800" data-original-width="800" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgz8rw0h9buEgaGM919UKNl0ShWsLNDaOII8orEMd7vNdEmbRbKmewK57Jxs9HrIl_mqp6OUdyp79XigNJnF7Zpl0lXEgXb2reYiVXmmh9L1iwQQpTAz_O4HgwCcHc8PMM_4nUmr2Mv00Q/w400-h400/MIX404_JS2.jpg" width="400" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">MIX404 using<br />Bring To Life</td></tr></tbody></table><br /><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh3LHaj3FAPN_yxgPFDbQOZPF4dRI1dUKfqUv81PkuFVgva1-ZLvVkbDlpzsdayIi1AY18_QObisyNXNCPriUmkP5EqGD2XS91I6_1NZYGNAb045w_81rBSkjP2ehRM8KaqbGV7-1LlQqU/s800/MIX404_JS.jpg" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="800" data-original-width="800" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh3LHaj3FAPN_yxgPFDbQOZPF4dRI1dUKfqUv81PkuFVgva1-ZLvVkbDlpzsdayIi1AY18_QObisyNXNCPriUmkP5EqGD2XS91I6_1NZYGNAb045w_81rBSkjP2ehRM8KaqbGV7-1LlQqU/w400-h400/MIX404_JS.jpg" width="400" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">MIX404 using<br />Little Monsters</td></tr></tbody></table><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Have a super day crafting, making or just relaxing!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I'm a maker who receives goodies chosen by myself for design team work. <strong>Instructions</strong>:<br />
<ol>
<li>Use or make a heart stencil. I made three hearts of different sizes and shapes with copy paper.</li>
<li>Grab your favorite colors in Crayola markers and start overlapping 2-3 hearts on white cardstock.</li><li>Go back to each heart and wet the inside edge of the marker heart with a water brush pen. dilute it towards the center to fill the heart with a tint of color.</li><li>Continue with steps 2-3 until you have covered the cardstock size of your choosing. My cardstock was about 4 inches by 3 inches.</li><li>Grab a light-colored gray pen from the Triplus set and shadow all the bottom-right sides of the hearts only on the outside. Add some fading dots if desired.</li><li>Go back over the shadow lines with the Silver Glitter marker.</li><li>Glue heart cardstock onto a colored cardstock layer or directly onto the card base.</li><li>Trace each heart with a multi-liner black pen giving the effect that some are in front of other hearts. Add tiny hearts around for more detail.</li><li>Die-cut the word love and glue on onto the card base. Highlight with white gel pen.</li><li>Start adding iridescent crystal drops from the top-right to the bottom-left across the card.</li><li>Optional: Add a row of stamped hearts across the bottom of the card, I chose London Fog ink.</li>

</ul>Now for how I put together my card for today. <div><br /></div><div>I grabbed some old linen texture cardstock and traced around the bottom of a paint bottle for the moon. I used that as my guide to making the blue shade of rings, slightly blending the transitions. Then a quick spattering of watered-down white paint over the moon sky and set it aside to dry. I stamped the trees twice from Let It Snow and cut them out with scissors and a craft knife. The sentiment is from The Best Gift of All originally as a 3-line sentiment, but with the help of scrap paper for masks and my MISTI tool, I turned it into a 1-line sentiment. </div><div><br /></div><div>That's about it. Enjoy your crafting time, and we'll see you again... probably for the next Mix-Ability challenge! <br /><ol>

It's Friday! And it's a new <a href="https://www.splitcoaststampers.com/forums/mix-ability-challenge-390/mix500-show-your-5-0-0-a-642376/">Mix-Ability challenge on Splitcoaststampers</a>! Lots of exclamations so far in this post because it is a BIG deal! The challenge has hit its 500th challenge, and we are celebrating with the 5-0-0 up all over the gallery and internet!</div><div><br /></div><div>A post from all of the Mix-Ability hostess can be read <a href="https://www.splitcoaststampers.com/news/comments.php?id=2287_0_1_0_C">here</a>. It’s so interesting to read how each of us decided to lead a challenge. </div><div><br /></div><div>I have two cards to share today. The first one has some of my very favorite monoprinted and freestyle background paper. The sentiment is made with Lawn Fawn's <a href="https://www.lawnfawn.com/products/giant-hooray">Giant Hooray die</a> on cardstock painted with metallic gold paint. Pretty much a party on a card! </div><div><br /></div><div>The other card is a lot of fun because I started with a printer printout background and added paint layers. The sentiment is from a super sweet photopolymer set by Jane's Doodles called "You've Got This." By this posting, it is sold out, bummer, but there are a ton more adorable and fun options on their <a href="https://www.janesdoodles.com/clear-stamps/">website</a>.<br /><br /><strong><br /></strong><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiWIPrjUTTSKNhox77SKlCCsPzdM6GyO6VW68pUlHLnqn3HPfcInTgsErsI4qzxWhQl9heeRiHJy5i5Y3q7I-byNmXbd7mm3gtYxoWMbomZSHBzipos21utCWXYXG6sAH1ASmjCFYoTCMOEuQaJFyjo0DjAUoNytZOqNdwOfIfc7q7A1xqMm7ebBbqr/s600/MIX500_Faith%20stand.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="600" data-original-width="600" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiWIPrjUTTSKNhox77SKlCCsPzdM6GyO6VW68pUlHLnqn3HPfcInTgsErsI4qzxWhQl9heeRiHJy5i5Y3q7I-byNmXbd7mm3gtYxoWMbomZSHBzipos21utCWXYXG6sAH1ASmjCFYoTCMOEuQaJFyjo0DjAUoNytZOqNdwOfIfc7q7A1xqMm7ebBbqr/s320/MIX500_Faith%20stand.jpg" width="320" /></a></div></div><strong><div><strong><br /></strong></div></strong>Come on over to Splitcoaststampers and join in any challenge for a super fun crafty community at any time.<div>

I say attempt because art and mixed media specifically can be jolted into different directions. </div><div><br /></div><div>Sending Big Hugs is a monoprint on deli paper inspired by the amazingly talented Birgit Koopsen. I made a vignette or transition by painting whirling lines. I meant to cut the paper along the lines, but when I realized I was gluing my layer on the base I had already cut it into a rectangle. </div><div><br /></div><div>Thank you is a transition with simple lines to hide the abrupt edge of the bubble background mat layer. That background is from when I hosted the <a href="https://www.splitcoaststampers.com/forums/mix-ability-challenge-390/mix468-wood-you-bubbly-not-%5B1-14-22%5D-640519/?highlight=dizzymommie">MIX468 challenge</a>. It isn't noticeable in the photo but I used Spectrum Noir Sparkle Brush Pens so it twinkles it's Thank You.</div><div><br /></div><div>Happy Birthday is another monoprint that I did for a challenge and loved it but needed to wait for the right card to use it. I believe it's from the <a href="https://www.splitcoaststampers.com/forums/mix-ability-challenge-390/mix460-first-impression-640094/">MIX460 challenge</a> and just trying to play with brush strokes.</div><div><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhjwuzl5bV_6AGFfZno3u9KXnQbEgG2cjJOZ71zvbGpvJ4BkyFg8UU4pbockg-xK5x6j57uX7mv9cbMxo_YxRL8ExCWDSmCXxacEwpFENaM9WK3NidOgn2Kg6rpcD98D2cWLykGUooTjTa7daU_TILM0tVoD6zfN2m1eIxGCzfHx4J55duT1xj9MbDY/s220/blinkie_1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="220" data-original-width="220" height="220" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhjwuzl5bV_6AGFfZno3u9KXnQbEgG2cjJOZ71zvbGpvJ4BkyFg8UU4pbockg-xK5x6j57uX7mv9cbMxo_YxRL8ExCWDSmCXxacEwpFENaM9WK3NidOgn2Kg6rpcD98D2cWLykGUooTjTa7daU_TILM0tVoD6zfN2m1eIxGCzfHx4J55duT1xj9MbDY/s1600/blinkie_1.jpg" width="220" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">This week it's </span></div><div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;"><a href="https://stampendous.com/shop/tools-storage/tools/mixed-media-white-paper/">MIX479: Vignette</a></span></div><div><br /></div><strong><div><strong><br /></strong></div>Supplies</strong>: I provide some product links that are through my Amazon Affiliate, and that means when clicked and purchased in the same session a few pennies are sent my way at no cost to you.<br />

It’s been sooooo long ago that I’ve posted, but I still have one stamping gig I’m still doing and I wanted to pop in and tell you about it. </div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">Friday, every eight weeks I host a challenge on Splitcoaststampers for their mixed media thread called Mix-Ability. If you’ve been getting notifications from me for a while you probably already know about it, but those new here should check out this stampers and makers community. It’s a lot of fun with challenges, tutorials and various festivals. </div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">So my challenge? It’s called MIX444: Side by Side. My inspiration was the cover of a well known creative magazine and I fell into a creative trance with the cards pairing of old style pieces with new style techniques and supplies. I think it even called it out as Juxtaposed Old and New. </div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">So with a little bit of leeway crafters and makers can make something with old and new side by side!</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">The card above has a page copied from an old Housekeeping Hints booklet with an old sewing machine image next to my somewhat recent stamping set sewing machine! </div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">I’d love for you to stop by and join us in the <a href="https://www.splitcoaststampers.com/forums/mix-ability-challenge-390/mix444-side-side-%7B7-30-21%7D-639082/" target="_blank">forum thread</a>!</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">Enjoy a rare video I've created for the sneak peek of the challenge over on my Rain Puddles Design Facebook <a href="https://www.facebook.com/rainpuddlesdesign/posts/3045234592422983?__cft__[0]=AZXUTd--4FsmZbrwomLi-dcAMAQ6rzHOfFCAFUi04s4Mw3rCWt2AEIVLivXHfReoJDoIaUUcEH9GiP8ZWgpcVDZegirSuEXprsfiQ-nG2SJyktYBjUEeAb5-RffDyaSRgMRCZ9-TKP9Q3cQA3-Zdvnm4uikIyIZtEthgmmKKqJeg61aAAJpBmXxfJsO29Vo-1UKLJ36cQEctz74l9MfJCWXQ&__tn__=%2CO%2CP-R">post</a>. <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
In a time before kids, I would look for something out of my regular routine to do. My mother-in-law mentioned that a few teacher friends were going to take a bookbinding class she thought I would be interested in also taking so I jumped at the chance and was delighted by it. Not only did I learn a few small bookbinding techniques, but I was also fascinated by the paste paper process.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Trying to be creative with what we have for the Splitcoaststampers Mix-Ability challenge, I decided to combine the technique of paste paper and unused stamped rejects. No matter how hard I try these days I'm always making a mistake stamping, I will inevitably smudge or blur the stamped image... yes, even with a stamp positioner. </div>

Here's my process as best I could photograph it out, but first tips on the paste making process. Links are at the end of this post for credits, recipes, and other tutorials.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I searched the internet, and here are a few thoughts:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<ul>
<li>Cooked paste is smoother than raw (think paper mache recipes), but nowhere did it say that one is better than another for the end result.</li>
<li>Start with a thicker ratio of starch to water like 1:6 respectively, then if you want a little bit more fluid paste, add more water in the temperature the recipe calls out. (See photo 1)</li>
<li>Use a binder of some sort. The recipe I used at Lil Bookbinder (link below in credits) had ground alum and an acrylic medium which is supposed to help bind the colorant to the starch. (Photo 2)</li>
<li>Use a plastic table cover. I have a thick clear table vinyl on my work table, so it was easy to clean up.</li>
</ul>

<b>Let's get started!</b></div>
<ul>
<li>I started with one page that I had a hard time stamping a full image and just kept stamping in all angles until it was filled up.</li>
