It's all about getting the creativity going and then jumping into a challenge. I feel like I'm a bi-athlete of mixed media right now.
I've had a blast watching the artists in the
n*Studio's Creative JumpStart 2015 Workshop. I didn't know what to expect and it is so refreshing helping me get looser in my creative routine. This project is my share for Show and Tell #2. My inspiration was the Painting Panel by Marsha Valk. I just loved her layers! I adapted the idea to use the new Rectangles Creative Palette from Stampendous*.
I'm all caught up on the videos now and so I immediately grabbed some new NEW supplies! I'll just say they are fun and Stampendous has them shipping out to your favorite craft stores. Look for the * next to items that are going to be available to consumers soon. {wink}
The challenge is Mix-Ability's
MIX103: Repeat-peat-peat. Pick a shape and repeat it several times in different sizes, styles, you name it.

Instructions:
- Create a card base by folding a 5 1/2 x 8 1/2 inch piece of white cardstock to a finished size of 5 1/2 x 4 1/4 inches.
- Cover workspace with paper or craft mat.
- Prep area with large rectangle Creative Palette plate, exposing one side of the plate by removing the acetate cover*. Have a cup of clean water, paper towel, paint palette, paints and other supplies in reach of the palette.
- Using the flat brush thin each paint color with airbrush medium on palette paper or craft mat and cleaning brush with water in between each color mix.
- Start with one color and paint large squares onto Stampendous Creative Palette and quickly make a print with mixed media white paper.
- Repeat each color, varying square sizes, in the same way as the first. Use the same piece of paper for each impression.
- Do not clean the palette between colors so you can use the last impression as a guide for the new color.
- Put the small square stamp from Rectangles Creative Palette onto acrylic stamp handle.
- Dampen a sponge and pat into paint color (raw sienna, blue violet or whatever you choose but white should be last) and then evenly pat it onto the small square stamp. Stamp onto monoprint. Repeat with desired color choices.
- Paint a few squares in various sizes with flat brush in two colors (Purple Red and white shown)
- Trim monoprint to fit on card base (5 1/4 x 4 inches)
- Thin Ivory Black with a little airbrush medium and load the rigger/liner brush. begin to add open squares around the outside of the monoprint. Attach a few with lines. Vary sizes, outline some stamped squares or whatever your creative leads you to do.
- Run the pattern tracer tool in black paint that has been spread out with a brush. Run the tracer wheel next to the painted squares.
- In the same manner as the small square stamp, load a sponge and pat it onto the sentiment stamp and stamp onto monoprint.
- Adhere dry monoprint to card base with Zip-Dry™ glue.
