Warm Up with a color challenge

I was able to play in the studio yesterday and create some warm paper for the Splitcoaststampers Mix-Ability challenge, MIX52 - Warm Up!. Dina has challenged us to use two or more warm colors on our project and it certainly brightened my day since we are sitting in a seemingly unending weather inversion for the Treasure Valley.

This card was a time to just get back into creating for fun. I've used a piece of white tagboard paper and painted a prep layer of white gesso all over it. I used Naphthol Light Red from Amsterdam Acrylics for a base color. The wide chisel brush used was quite wet and created a nice even layer of color. Each layer was dried with my heat tool, I might not mention it each time but know I'm not willing to walk away and wait for it to dry. I switched to a smaller chisel brush and barely wetting the bristles in water I grabbed Liquitex Burnt Sienna and quickly brushed it vertically then horizontally in patches across the paper. Cleaning the brush for the next color and brushing with more water in the bristles of the brush with Naphthol Crimson. In spots across the page I went back over patches with a clean damp brush, no paint, and brushed away some of the paint to reveal more of the white gesso.

Paint done and ready for some details I taped some Stampin' Up Delicate Details Tape across a sized piece of my dry acrylic paper. I used an emery board to scratch the surface a little bit and then rubbed Light Red paint over it. My detail is made with a PITT Black India Ink pen around the tape.

The sentiment is from Verve's recent release of Each Day using Onyx Black ink.

The rustic background stamp is from Wishful Elegance, another from Verve Stamps, that I sparingly inked with Onyx Black and dabbed off with the wet paper towel used when painting.

I hope you are enjoying your new year and creating time for creating! :)
