Verve Project Parade - I made it all from scratch!

Easter is almost here and I've been seeing a lot of card ensembles over at Splitcoaststampers and with the Verve Divas. So I decided to make a cardfolio of Easter cards to send to my mom to use.

It didn't start out as a folio. I wanted to make an egg-shaped box. Thought I could play with some Cold Clay Porcelain, but it wasn't the right material and I had never used it. I moved to chipboard and designer paper. Too stiff. So I moved to something simple and made a cardfolio.

I have a stack of chipboard from my father-in-law's office supplies so I started by covering it with some discontinued Stampin' Up designer paper (sorry I don't know what the name of it is. I bought it at a garage sale.) The spine cracked when I folded it in half so I made an accordian strip of paper to allow for expansion when closed, but it also cracked from being scored. Any sugestions for next time would be greatly appreciated. I wanted an egg-shaped embossed paper for the cover. The cuttlebugged (Textile emboss folder) egg shaped paper needed to stand out a little bit so I used some scrap quilt batting and built it up before putting. Another piece of covered chipboard with the egg shaped cut out and a ribbon and the cover was done. Really. I had to add the ribbon afterwards because it looked to plain. The edges just barely fit into the crease of the two front panels.

I hope my mom gets time to use these cards for Easter. I'll put a panel of stamps in with it so she won't have to go buy them. Here's the inside of the folio.

I used my new set of Verve stamps for the images on the card and the sentiment on the front. It's called Everlasting Life. I love my Verve stamps. It took me a while to get use to the differences of rubber stamps, but I think I do like photopolymer stamps better.

The cross and sentiment were stamped with Staz-On Timber Brown and then I used my own set of watercolor pencils to do a little bit of green on the swirls and blue around the cross. I add some Lime Green and Waterfall Stickles to complete it. The sentiment card is also Staz-On Timber Brown. I used Stampin Up Old Olive and I think Brocade Blue to go along with the DSP.
